KNOW YOUR TOOTH!!!!!!!!!!
Nowadays we hear very commonly about tooth aches from our
friends and relatives. Or sometimes we ourselves have experienced it…
But we are not able to visualise it…
Most of us know very little about our teeth and its
structure in detail…
So now let us know about our teeth more…..
First of all let see how our tooth looks like. This is a diagrammatic
representation of our tooth.
Lets just get familiarise with itt……
Our tooth is divided into crown and root portion
Crown portion is composed of three layers . They are the enamel.dentin and the pulp
Inside the pulp we have a chamber called pulp chamber which encloses the nerves and blood vessels which keep the tooth alive...
Root portion is covered by the cementum, dentin and the root canals which are continuation of the pulp chamber..
HOW DOES TOOTH DECAY HAPPENS??
When does our teeth aches or what happens to our teeth to
cause us so much pain in between keeping us very much stressed!!!!
how does our teeth decay????????
Our mouth has a good variety of micro organisms that combines with the saliva and the small food particles remaining after our meals to form a thin sticky film called as plaque. When we have carbohydrate rich snacks in between our meals like for example: sweets or chocolates , these microbes in the plaque combine with sugar in the sweets to form acids, which in mean time erodes our tooth surfaces. At first the tooth decay affects the enamel which is the outermost covering of our tooth , then gradually affects the dentin which is beneath it and if left untreated the decay process enters the inner most chamber of tooth, that is the pulp which is highly sensitive as it is enclosed of nerves and blood vessels of the teeth. Thus these nerves and blood vessels are exposed to the bacteria causing very much pain which then at last leads to tooth abscesses...(cavity filled with pus and degenerated tissues)
Whenever our teeth gets decayed due to microbes we often get
abnormal pain and symptoms associated with our teeth and surroundings. The mostly affected region is the back side of your mouth with the molar big teeth.
how does this happen????
Lets check it out… watch this video
WHAT ARE THE RISK FACTORS THAT CAUSES TOOTH DECAY??
Now what are the things that we should avoid to prevent tooth decay as we know prevention is better than cure..lets have a look at it
- Diet rich in carbohydrates like chocolates, sweets, carbonated or soft drinkss etc also starchy foods like crispy chips, white bread, biscuits
- poor oral hygiene, increases the chances of tooth decay so brush your teeth atleast twice
- Dry mouth is a hub of micro organisms as there is less saliva to flush off the remnant food particles as well as the bacteria and keep the teeth surfaces clean
- smoking also increases the chances of tooth decay s tobacco reduces the production of saliva which in turn prevent to keep the surfaces of the teeth to be clean
WHAT CAN BE DONE TO PREVENT TOOTH DECAYY??
We should always keep our mouth and surrounding regions always clean and hygienic so that we will not be affected by tooth decay and bad breathe (halitosis)
what are the measures to keep our mouth clean???
- With correct brushing techniques, brush twice daily
- Flossing the areas between the tooth after every meals to remove the remaining food debries
- Use mouthwash containing fluorides which prevents tooth decay. eat or drink only 30min after using fluoride containing mouthwash
- Avoid smoking
- Avoid carbohydrate rich diet
For that we ourselves should check our mouth daily to observe any visible changes on our tooth
Also we should have a dental consultation in every six months to have a regular check up for our mouth
At the dental clinic the dentist will examine our mouth and find out any decay or changes if present and will confirm it radiographically thus we can the treat the tooth as early and remove the decay
Thus we can know tooth closely and save it from tooth decayyyy...............
